Jumping Elephant Press

Dating back to the 15th Century, letterpress is a relief printing process which prints raised inked surfaces.  Using movable metal type, polymer, linoleum and wood plates, the reversed image presses into the paper, leaving an impression you can both see and feel.

As a tangible form of communication and oral tradition that is centuries old, the importance of exploring the written word paired with visual elements is, for me, the basis of printmaking. The collaboration between the printing press and the human touch gives new voice and meaning to the prints created.  Flesh and metal come together to make possible the creation of handcrafted editions of work, each containing a personal touch or impurity, making them at once individual, yet cohesive.

Jumping Elephant Press hopes to bring the tactility of paper and ink back to the forefront of an era ruled by technology.  The feel, smell and look of the hand printed cards are part of a past tradition that has been reinvented in the 21st Century.
